Linking shader to player's data

Hi! I found this tutorial so usefull on creating numerous effects with shaders. I'm recently getting into this world and maybe some concepts that could seem obvious I just don't know them.

I've tried to search by my self an answer, but again, big noob here.

I was wondering if it would be possible to apply a shader that interacts with some of the player stats, as if the player loses health points the shader would be more and more faint or transparent.
