Hi, I have recently become interested in game development and I am currently unsure of what programming languages to learn. I have about a years experience in c# and I want to expand my programming skill set. I want to focus on games programming but I also do not want to be limited to just games. I can’t decide between c++, Lua or Python which of these languages would be most suited for games programming but also be useful in other areas of programming? Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

most of the games are written in c++ so I would go for that one. You can find a lot of great tutorials. Personally I would recommend using c++ with SDL library ( with addition of OpenGL if you want). That way I have learned pretty a lot about the language + I have learned to write optimized code. And when you are comfortable with terms like game loop (input -> update logic ->render), delta time etc.. then I would jump into some game engine like unreal engine.

C++ its pretty hard language and can be dangerous to use (you can crash you windows), but when you know how to use it, its very powerful and fast. But if you are interested in making web apps, then you should stick with c#
