Hey everyone,

The past few days I have been researching the possibilities for an app for the Brackeys Forum.

As of this very much pre alpha build of the app it is only possible to read the first page of threads without the ability to create a new thread or comment to a thread. (Still looking for possibilities to implement this)

This pre alpha build is also only build for Windows and there are no plans to release, if I ever get to release, the app for other platforms.

Images of the two views that are made as of now:

Bugs to fix:

  • Scrollview is to long for the screen
  • Text goes out of the view in the thread page

Planned features:

  • Navigation
  • Read comments on a thread
  • Get different pages of threads.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

What software and languages are you using?

Visual Studio 2015, C# with the HtmlAgilityPack installed and XAML for the non dynamically created UI like the navigation.

I have been doing bits of work mostly on getting formatting to work because I have to convert the html. It does work just not to well with every thread (My guess is the way the forum itself formats what the user types in a way that changes constantly depending on how the user formats is thread):

With a not really working thread here:

I also managed to get comments in there (currently without formatting):

In all honesty, I can’t wait until you finish it.
I’d love the ability to check the forums easily without having to use my phone’s browser.

Well the thing is that the chances of this ever being finished is really small. Mostly because there are some things I can’t predict happening and I am unable to make a solution for such thing. Mostly this is with thread being created by users and are able to have completely different HTML formatting.

As well as that if this app were to ever be released there (at least for now) wouldn’t be a big chance of a iOS release with the reason that I can’t afford / don’t want to afford the 99$ a year for a developer account.

If you released it I’d just jailbreak my iPhone and download the file tbh.

(Assuming that you built an IOS version and just put the file in a dropbox or something.

Alas, I know it’s a monumental task. So I’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
Either way, good luck to you!

Wow this is awesome,is it near to complete

Master

Not even close to complete. + since I’ve mostly abandoned the project I don’t think it will be finished soon/ever.

Why you ask?
Since this started as a UWP app written in C# I had to convert the HTML gotten from scraping the website to XAML/Things that a TextBox/RichTextBox could use. Which proved itself to be hard and the parts that worked didn’t work consistently.

And well since there is no good way of scraping webpages in web languages or at least I haven’t found any, I probably won’t finish this in like ever.

Wait did you do any of the development in xamarin?

Master

As said above this started as a UWP project, or Universal Windows Platform, this means it isn’t cross-platform so no I did not do any of the development in Xamarin
