Hi, all. Was pointed to this site by an acquaintance, so I figured I’d pop in and say “hello”.

I’m a 28-year-old dude working a dead-end job and going to college part-time on semesters I can afford it. (Not majoring in computer science.) I’ve been interested in making games for decades, and am trying to get serious about learning. Here’s my relevant experience:

● I’ve put myself through just under 2 semesters of C++ material. (I can use classes decently.)
● My main focus at the moment is learning Unity. (Using Ben Tristem’s “Unity Certified” course.)
● I’m pretty good with a lot of creative software like Vegas and Flash MX, which helps with Unity.

That’s it, really. Now I can start clicking around and get acquainted with the site.

Welcome~
Just out of curiosity are you developing in Unity with C# or Java?
(Lucky for you C++ is pretty similar to C# (dunno about Java).

Assuming it’s C#  here are some great resources to help you:
1. Brackeys YouTube channel (the guy who owns the forums).
2.IMHO the Best C# Tutorial series you can find. Short but informative.

It’s really cool that you’ve taken up game development, it’s an awesome hobby and is even better if you’re passionate about what you’re creating.

We hope you enjoy your time here and feel free to ask questions if you have any. 🙂

I haven’t done much coding in Unity yet, as I’m still getting familiar with the editor and menus. Just basic stuff like printing to console or triggering an animation on a keypress. I am doing C#, so those tutorials look very helpful, thanks!

I think that you meant JavaScript and not Java, 2 totally different languages.

@LeonLaci, yeah, I’ve never read up on the difference so that’s on me. Thanks for pointing it out. 🙂

@Jim, It’s amazing once you learn your way around!

Wow man, i gotta go through this playlist. Thanks! From Unnamed Pork

 Are you fucking kidding me?

My whole life (it’s an on-going life project) I have been trying to get you to watch Jamie King’s videos, and I never succeeded, but then some random guy just suggests some stupid playlist and you are like “Wow, I better check it out, since there totally wasn’t that guy who recommended me one of the best places to learn C# (and C++) at!”…

I love ranting. ^_^ But seriously, you don’t deserve to ever get good at programming, you are just stupid… (I would keep it like that, but I know some people here will actually think I am serious, so I better just say that I am not serious.)
