Editor log file size way smaller than built .APK

I’ve build a very simple 2d game. It’s a sort of like flappy bird but different. There’s not a whole lot to it.

This is my first ever game I finished and am going to put on the play store. But, I have a small problem. My editor log says my .apk is only 5mb. That’s great, isn’t it?

Well.. when I look at what unity actually builds… It’s an APK of 20mb but when I open that APK there’s a lib folder which is 40mb, an asset folder of 10 mb and some other files which makes my game larger than the 5mb the editor log puts out. My overall APK size is around 60mb. I’ve had this problem for weeks now, I’ve searched a lot on the internet but nothing really helps me out. I’m totally lost now. I’ve no idea what to do.

That editor log doesn’t include the size for the engine which the APK includes. Yeah, it’s pretty big.

Okay, that makes sense now. Thanks.

Is there any way I can make my .apk as small as 5mb? I doubt people want to download my simple game when its bigger than a lot of more advanced games.

Can I for example delete the library folder, or anything else?

You can use compression or change the resolution of your textures. Same goes for audio.

Thanks for thinking with me.

Unfortunately I have already tried that though. I’ll probably be able to lower the resolution on most of my texture one more step, but I doubt that’ll change the size a lot.

Okay so here is what I have so far:
Editor log – 5mb
Actual build size – 60mb

I know it’s normal to have some kind of difference, but this seems unusual big, doesn’t it?

When I made my first Unity Android game the APK size was 22MB and the installed size was about 50MB. But I didn’t have any assets whatsoever.

So I think that’s a bout right. The UnityEngine takes up most of the space there.

Alright thanks.

I’ve just encountered some more bugs. Will fix them up and put my game in the play store.
